Marquee collects no personal data. There are no accounts, no analytics, no advertising, and no tracking of any kind. We operate no servers. Your playlists, your media library, and your viewing activity stay on your devices and in your own iCloud account — we never see them.
Marquee is developed and published by Daniel LaRusso ("we," "us"), based in Houston, Texas, USA. This policy describes how the Marquee app handles information when you use it.
None. Marquee does not collect, transmit, sell, or share any personal information with the developer or with any third party for advertising or analytics purposes. The app contains no third-party analytics, advertising, or tracking SDKs. Its App Store privacy label is "Data Not Collected."
To function, Marquee stores certain information — but it stores it for you, on your own devices, never on servers we operate:
Any iCloud data is governed by your Apple ID and Apple's Privacy Policy. We have no access to your iCloud content.
Artwork lookups are off until you turn them on. If you choose to add your own free TMDb API key in Settings, Marquee sends the cleaned movie title and year (for example, “His Girl Friday 1940”) to The Movie Database to retrieve poster art, cast, and synopsis information. These queries describe film titles, not you: they contain no name, email, account identifier, location, or device fingerprint supplied by us. Responses are cached on your device to minimize repeat requests. If you never add a key, Marquee makes no request to TMDb at all. TMDb's handling of requests is described in the TMDb Privacy Policy. This product uses the TMDb API but is not endorsed or certified by TMDb.
Marquee can play your own videos from cloud storage you already own — iCloud Drive, pCloud and OneDrive — and Google Drive files you open through the system file picker. iCloud Drive is read as a folder on your own device and requires no sign-in beyond the one your device already has. For pCloud and OneDrive you sign in to that provider directly; the app stores only the access token needed to reach your account, in the Apple Keychain, and if you have iCloud Keychain switched on, Apple syncs that token between your own devices the same way it syncs your other saved passwords. Marquee never signs in to Google: Google Drive files are opened through the system file picker. Marquee streams your files directly between your device and your cloud provider; your credentials and your files are never sent to, stored on, or seen by the developer. Your use of each cloud service is governed by that provider's own terms and privacy policy.
Marquee stores a small amount of data locally so it does not have to fetch the same thing twice: poster art and synopses returned by TMDb, and your library index. These files stay on your device, are never transmitted to the developer or to any third party, and are removed when you delete the app.
When a film stored in your cloud account is not yet on your device, your operating system fetches it from your own account; Marquee only waits for it. Marquee does not capture, decrypt, or remove protection from DRM-protected content.
Marquee ships with a short sample playlist — one demo film included in the app and three Creative Commons films hosted by the Internet Archive — so the app can be tried before you add anything. Everything else it plays is a playlist, stream, or file that you supply. When you play a stream, your device connects directly to the server address contained in your playlist; that connection is between you and your content provider, and the provider may see your IP address as with any internet video playback. We are not a party to that connection and receive nothing from it.
Marquee does not request your location, contacts, camera, photos, or health data.
Marquee is a general-purpose media player intended for adults. It plays whatever streams and files you supply it with, and that content comes from your providers and your own storage — it is not selected, restricted, or filtered by us. Marquee is not directed at children, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from anyone, children included. Because we collect no data at all, there is nothing about a child, or about any user, for us to hold, sell, or delete. If you have a question about this, contact us using Section 13 below.
Connections Marquee itself initiates — to Apple services and to TMDb — use industry-standard TLS encryption. Streams and playlists are fetched from the address your provider gave you, and whether that connection is encrypted is determined by your provider, not by Marquee; some provider portals are served over plain HTTP. Credentials are protected by the Apple Keychain and your device's hardware security. Because we hold no user data, there is no developer database to breach.
Because all app data is yours and stored under your control, you can exercise your rights directly: delete a playlist, a source, or a saved credential in the app on the device that holds it; turn off iCloud Keychain in your device's system settings if you do not want saved credentials synced by Apple between your devices; or delete the app to remove its on-device data. Residents of jurisdictions with privacy laws (including the EU/UK GDPR and the California CCPA/CPRA) retain all rights those laws provide; since we collect no personal data, there is no data held by us to access, correct, delete, or opt out of selling — we sell nothing and share nothing.
If a future version of Marquee changes how information is handled, we will update this policy, revise the effective date above, and describe the change in the App Store release notes before it takes effect.
